Airport Vocabulary for Beginners
Hi everyone! I’m Ariannita la Gringa. Today, I’m at the airport, and I want to teach you some important airport vocabulary.
When you go to the airport, you can drive your car and park it in the parking lot. But parking can be expensive! Instead, you can take an Uber, a taxi, or have a friend drop you off at Departures.
Before you arrive at the airport, you need to book a plane ticket. This means you reserve a seat on the plane. If you don’t book a ticket, you might not have a seat when you get there. I booked my flight to Orlando a month ago.
When you arrive, you need to check in your bag if it’s too big. A smaller bag is called a carry-on. I have a big suitcase, so I will check it in at the counter. I will also get my boarding pass there.
At the airport, there are many airlines like Frontier, Delta, and American Airlines. I will check in my bag with Frontier. They will ask for my ID and check the weight of my bag. If it’s too heavy, I might have to pay a fee.
After checking in, I need to go through security. I will show my ID and boarding pass. Remember, liquids are not allowed, so I have to empty my water bottles.
Once I pass security, I need to find my gate. My gate is A16, and I can check this on my boarding pass or on big screens at the airport. There are moving walkways and trains to help me get there faster.
When I arrive at my gate, I see many restaurants and shops. Airports can feel like shopping malls! I bought ice cream for dinner, which is more expensive than usual.
Before boarding the plane, I have to wait for the passengers to get off. When it’s my turn, I will board by group number. I’m in Group Eight, which means I board last.
Inside the plane, the flight attendants will show us how to use seatbelts and oxygen masks. It’s important to pay attention to the safety demonstration.
After landing, I will go to baggage claim to pick up my checked luggage. In Orlando, the airport is much bigger than in Cincinnati.
Finally, I’m outside the airport in the Arrivals area. I ordered an Uber to take me to my next destination.
Tip: Always arrive early at the airport to avoid missing your flight!
Thank you for joining me today! I hope you learned some useful airport vocabulary. Next time you travel, you can use these words. Safe travels!
